I’M BACK!!!

Hello again people who read this blog.

I am back once again to make internet spaceships explode.

I took a break from EVE and dove deep into Rift. It was an okay game. Made a few friends and did my share of PVP, which is a mediocre experience. A few decent customization options interested me for awhile. Here’s my character I used.

Thanks Qwicked!

One thing that will always bring me back to EVE is the coldness of the game world. In my time in Rift, I managed to get warned by a GM for abuse in the PVP battlegrounds within the first month of my game time. The attitude of the Rift community is terrible. The developers cave to which group of players whine the most. If a large group of players are generally terrible at one particular thing or feel a person is too skilled at their class, they whine on the forums. Within a matter of weeks it seems the developers release a hot fix that completely changes how a particular class works. On top of that, with each fix the game seemed to get more and more bugs. The PVE content of the game kept changing after each patch.

A lot of things have changed in the short time I’ve been back. I’ve already changed corporations. Placid and myself both left our personal corporation and joined up with Suddenly Ninjas, which was alright. The amount of action during the time we spent in the corp seemed to be pretty lacking. This caused my break from EVE. Placid on the other hand kept himself busy and met up with a group that joined the TEARS alliance. The guys in Tactical Knightmare. Placid told me about them and I felt the need to come back to EVE to join him.

Unfortunately I won’t be going into much detail about our antics in TK as I don’t want to give out any information on our activities. Once things settle down I’ll do my best to post.

EVE…how I missed your harsh, cruel world.

Hacks, updates, TEARS!

Well, it appears, that this humble and quiet blog was HAXED!  All is fixed now, I hadn’t updated the WP software for sometime, so I’m sure the hacker used an exploit to change the home page.  No data loss, just updated WP and all fixed.  Lulz to him!

There have been a lot of things as far as EVE goes, but I kind of had a down time for many months now.  I’ll try to get back into the blog as things change for me in game.  Talk to you all soon!

Dohickey vs The Benignity of the Compassionate Hand

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve felt the need to post about my EVE shenanigans. Most of the kills recently have been pretty standard ganks, nothing funny or out of the ordinary. Since I’ve gotten my Loki, I’ve been taking more risks with who I try to bait. With my Hurricane, I usually would only try to bait mission runners who are alone. With the Loki, I take my Vigil to bait any amount of mission runners.

For example, during my short trip to Irjunen during TEARS recent war, I ran into Din Dale and iCoder doing a mission together in their Drakes. Didn’t take long and they shot at my Vigil. Came back and made short work of Din Dale while having iCoder warp disrupted who’s Drake soon joined his friends in the scrapyard. Silly Russians. Another example is my first ever ninjaing attempt on a Megathron accompanied by a Maelstrom from the same corp, who both immediately shot at me after looting from their Federation Navy wrecks. After returning in my Loki, I made short work of the Megathron’s gaping explosive resist hole. Unfortunately, the Maelstrom left before I could warp disrupt him.

Anyways, on to the real reason for taking the time to post.

After about a week in Ruvas, Placid and myself decided to move our operations to the Motsu area. Started my day off in Laah with no one shooting really, except for a Russian who came back in a Succubus. Figuring on maybe doing one last scan before taking a break from playing, I found a Rokh and a Caracal together. Why not, I thought. Maybe something will happen. I decided to use my Merlin equipped with a warp disrupter. As I arrived at the acceleration gate, I used my d-scan and saw that there was a noctis and an ORCA in the mission. This confused me, was there already another ninja in their missioning swapping their ship? What could they possibly be using an Orca for in a mission? Curious, I used the acceleration gate.

When I landed in the mission area I couldn’t believe what I saw. The Rokh pilot was using the Orca to repair his shields. This was too good to be true, could I possibly get the Rokh pilot to shoot me so I could get the Orca to go red to me? About a minute later, the Rokh pilot targetted me and opened fire causing the Orca and himself to go blinky red. I began to target the Orca to warp disrupt it, but I started getting shot at by the Caracal and five Hobgoblin II’s from the Rokh pilot. I decided to warp and hope I could swap to my Loki and return before the Orca pilot aligned and warped out.

I landed back at the acceleration gate and saw on my scanner that the Orca was still there as well as the rest of the ships. Back in the mission pocket, I quickly targetted the Orca and put on my disruptor. The Rokh and Caracal began to open fire on my Loki, doing absolutely no damage. I decided to try to get rid of the Caracal, which only took a few volleys before it exploded. This left the Rokh as the only threat left at the moment, so I began to wear the shields of the Orca down. Once the Orca reached armor, I noticed a Manticore had appeared in the pocket. I only noticed after the battle was over that the Rokh pilot must’ve boarded the Manticore from inside the Orca and left the Rokh abandoned in the pocket for a short time. Unfortunately for the Manticore, he didn’t realize he should have started moving after he began firing at me. He sat still and popped within a few seconds.

Fearing that more backup would arrive, I decided to put all my efforts on killing the Orca and ignore the Rokh for the meantime. The Orca took a long time to kill, but eventually it went down. Now, the Rokh pilot had about five minutes to realize he wasn’t going to kill my Loki and had all that time to warp out and reduce the corps losses. I even needed to target the Rokh to warp disrupt him. This guy had no excuse for losing his Rokh. Once I had him disrupted and began shooting at him, he went down incredibly fast.

Rokh go boom!

Pop Goes the Rokh!

Unfortunately all the pilots in their corp rejected my requests, so I couldn’t get a ransom. On top of that, their corps Noctis looted and salvaged the Manticore and Caracal. So I was lucky to possibly break even with all the ammo I used from these kills. No tears were shed from the mission runners either. Also with all the excitement, I forgot to start recording with FRAPS until the Orca was almost dead so there’s really no point in a video of the battle. All in all, I can at least come away from this knowing that I created a huge dent in the wallet’s of The Benignity of the Compassionate Hand members single-handedly.

Loki!

Just thought I’d share my new toy with everyone that reads the blog. I recently upgraded from my Hurricane to a Loki. I named it the “Amazing Bug Mobile”.

Loki!
Loki!
Loki!
About an hour after I built the Loki, Romich25 volunteered his Raven to be my Loki’s first victim.

Since I had a lot of recorded footage from ganks with my Hurricane, I decided to make a sort of tribute video for my Hurricane. So I threw together a bunch of kills with my Hurricane and threw some music behind it. Hope you enjoy.

After doing some research, I figured out how to make videos actually look good! I decided to re-upload the video.

Jorasz and Fleran meet Hei Gui Inc.

After a short break from EVE and mission runner ganking, the area around Tintoh has seemed to forget about Placid and I. We’ve been in some larger fights recently as we’ve gotten a bit cockier with our experience ninjaing. Today was no different.

I decided to move to Santola to check it out as I wasn’t having any luck scanning down mission runners in Tintoh and Sankkasen. Not soon after starting to scan I found Jorasz and Fleran from Novalith Corporation missioning together. I decided to check it out in my Vigil and warped to their mission. Upon arriving I saw a massive wreck field that needed to be cleaned up. Within moments I was yellow boxed by both of them without even doing anything. This resulted in me flying to the nearest wreck and looting. Both of them immediately opened fire on my poor Vigil and I was forced to warp off.

I came back in my Hurricane and started to fight. Placid warped in to provide some repair and to possibly gain aggro. Seconds after he began repairing me he was fired upon. Once he returned with his Tengu I warped out to repair my armor and came back to help out.

Except this time, I remembered to turn on FRAPS!

Returning in style…

So as of late I’ve been very busy, so I haven’t had any time to play other than EVE other than to add skills to the queues.  Finally had a chance the past few nights to put some probes out and scan for a bit.  I didn’t get any hits or even yellowboxed on Monday, but yesterday was a bit more interesting.  Started out the evening RRing Dohickey as he took down a Raven, then started my scan process.  Found a couple targets but no shooters.  Jumped into a mission with a Drake and a Kestrel.  At first I just salvage making sure that Dohickey is free if I need RR support.  I’m already yellowboxed at this point and haven’t even stole anything yet.  The moment I loot the Drake fires on me.  I slap my point and web on him and orbit at 10k.  At this point the Kestrel must feel that he has a chance of scaring me off, so he goes red as well.  I keep my web and point on the Drake, but send my drones and rockets after the Kestrel, taking it down to 25% hull when it finally warps out.

At this point Dohickey is in the mission with RR and now has a red Drake to him to.  I tell him to bail out and grab his cane of doom and I’ll hold the Drake.  Before he can bail out my EVE disconnects.  I don’t notice for a few seconds until I’m not able to type in corp chat, so I quickly manually disconnect both my main and Orca alt EVE clients as EVE would just sit there otherwise.  As I log back in as quick as I can, I get the sit rep from Dohickey if they are still in the mission.  Luckily my Worm warps right back in rather than having to hit the first gate, but the Drake bails as I’m landing.  The Kestrel pilot has come back though and I snag him quick and make quick work of his T1 ship.

I then contacted the Drake pilot, the following is the chat log:

[ 2011.03.01 22:44:08 ] Placid09 > well hello again

At the end I was starting to get very bored of waiting and extending aggro while he ‘refit’ his Drake.  Dohickey is watching the station that he was docked in so I can warp back to my Orca to online the mods on my Tengu so I can switch when ready, as they are all offline from that pesky EVE disconnect.  I warp back in my worm and wait for him, watching d-scan.  Finally, I see him, it’s about time.  He warps in and aggresses me immediately.  I slap a point and web on him again and have Dohickey come back in in his cane to hold him so I can go switch to my Tengu.  He comes in, grabs point, and off I go.  I get back into the mission, and we start hammering him, but by now he’s had some time to weaken Dohickey’s cane, so he has to warp out.  I continue to hold the Drake, but can’t break his tank solo, so I wait for Dohickey to be able to return.  A Ferox warps into the mission, targets me, and generally seems agitated that I’m killing his corp mate.  I convo the Ferox pilot and ask if he wants me to drop a can so he can get aggro.  He says yes so I drop a can for him to be the polite pilot I am.

Now I have aggro from a Drake and a Ferox and am still easily out tanking them.  Dohickey comes back in his RR ship again and tops off my shields as they were at about half from unloading from the Orca, and then heads out to get back in his Cane, rep what needs to be repped, and load some more drones into it.

[ 2011.03.01 22:49:54 ] Placid09 > about that 30 mil
[ 2011.03.01 22:50:03 ] vicount walker > lol yh wt u sayin
[ 2011.03.01 22:50:31 ] vicount walker > like the ship
[ 2011.03.01 22:50:53 ] vicount walker > am not paying let me go
[ 2011.03.01 22:50:59 ] Placid09 > lol, not a chance
[ 2011.03.01 22:54:34 ] vicount walker > nothin is gona happen
[ 2011.03.01 22:55:35 ] Placid09 > 30 mil or you’re gone
[ 2011.03.01 22:55:37 ] Placid09 > you will die
[ 2011.03.01 22:55:39 ] Placid09 > you like it or not

All this time I’m tanking both the ships, firing from time to time hoping the Ferox stays long enough for Dohickey to return and land a point on him.  Finally Dohickey gets back into the mission, but they’ve been kiting this entire time as I don’t have a web fit, so he slowly starts to catch up to us.  The entire time the Ferox is free to warp out, but chooses to stay and fight.  Dohickey finally gets in range to land a point on the Ferox and proceeds to melt his ship in short order.  We are now both aggressed to the Drake and start in on his shield tank.

[ 2011.03.01 23:00:44 ] Placid09 > your ferox friend is dead, do you want to save your drake or not?
[ 2011.03.01 23:01:49 ] vicount walker > u got ur ferox let me b
[ 2011.03.01 23:01:53 ] Placid09 > nope
[ 2011.03.01 23:01:55 ] Placid09 > 30 mil
[ 2011.03.01 23:02:00 ] Placid09 > no freebes in this game
[ 2011.03.01 23:02:23 ] vicount walker > 25
[ 2011.03.01 23:02:27 ] Placid09 > hmmmm
[ 2011.03.01 23:02:33 ] Placid09 > alright, 25 mil
[ 2011.03.01 23:03:14 ] Placid09 > 2.5 mil is wrong!0
[ 2011.03.01 23:03:17 ] Placid09 > 25 mil fool

He sent me 2.5 million ISK at this point, either in his haste to pay out or trying to trick me.

[ 2011.03.01 23:03:21 ] vicount walker > sz lol
[ 2011.03.01 23:03:39 ] Placid09 > waiting…
[ 2011.03.01 23:03:52 ] vicount walker > there
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:05 ] Placid09 > SUDDENLEY BETRAYAL!
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:22 ] vicount walker > bastard
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:35 ] vicount walker > your a fat nigger with a sad life
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:41 ] vicount walker > you deserve only death
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:45 ] Placid09 > racial slurs? I’d watch it
[ 2011.03.01 23:04:53 ] vicount walker > your a dick
[ 2011.03.01 23:05:08 ] Placid09 > and btw, it’s ‘you’re’, not ‘your’
[ 2011.03.01 23:05:42 ] vicount walker > you arse
[ 2011.03.01 23:05:50 ] vicount walker > you are dis honourable
[ 2011.03.01 23:06:05 ] Placid09 > I’m a ninja…
[ 2011.03.01 23:10:10 ] Placid09 > bringing your whole corp in to watch eh?
[ 2011.03.01 23:11:56 ] vicount walker > wts the point this is long stop being sad
[ 2011.03.01 23:13:52 ] vicount walker > let me go right fucking now

At this point we’ve overloaded to defeat his tank and his ship finally goes pop.  At the very end the guy in the Kestrel from the beginning has warped back in in a Condor ship, with no aggro, and started moving towards the fight.

[ 2011.03.01 23:14:33 ] Placid09 > good fight
[ 2011.03.01 23:14:34 ] Placid09 > :D
[ 2011.03.01 23:14:38 ] Placid09 > thanks for all the kills

After I pop the Drake, the Condor feels it necessary to fire on me.  At first I’m a little in shock that this pilot actually fired on my Tengu with a measly T1 frig, then realize that Concord should be on the way to protect me.  In the laughter that ensues I completely forget to whore the Concord killmail, but it was a great laugh either way.

[ 2011.03.01 23:15:43 ] Placid09 > concord!

Now being a ninja my true goal is always tears of these bears.  My ship only has a limited supply of tears so I need to refuel once in awhile.  Well last night I think I hit a jackpot.  After killing three of this corps ships and having another one of them lost to Concord, I had other business to attend to in RL.
Just before I log off I get an eve-mail:

Obviously this doesn’t scare me, so my reply was short and sweet:

So apparently I now have a fan in EVE online…  :D

A ninja running for office?!

That’s right, TEARS own celebrated Arden Elenduil is running for CSM this coming election. Myself being a ninja I’m of course going to support him, but in his latest blog, he makes some very valid points that effect EVE as a whole, not just his fellow shadow stalkers. You can find the blog here.

Placid09

A new home…

As I posted over at the podlogs version of ‘Oh look, a shiny!’, we’ve moved locations due to some logistics.  Hosting the blog myself means I can keep a better eye on everything and do with it as I please.  If anyone has any questions or is looking into getting their own blog but want what I have done to have full control, feel free to contact me in game.  I’ve got tons of storage and bandwidth and I’m sure we can work something out.

As far as the new site, as you can see there was a reason for my need of a custom theme.  The great Rixx Javix over at Evoganga created our lovely new banner.  He does some great artwork so if you’re looking to get a new blog banner or any other form of artwork, don’t hesitate to contact him, very reasonable rates, good communication.  Thanks Rixx!

Anyways, good hunting,

With Age Comes Knowledge?

Junto Kast, an EVE veteran with a pilot age of around five years. This guy must really know his stuff when it comes to EVE right? One would think so, just don’t place any bets on it.

Idiot

Five years of experience!

I scanned down Junto’s CNR in Sankkasen earlier tonight to find him in a Damsel mission. I promptly began flying around in my Vigil looting from his wrecks. While salvaging, I glanced at his pilot information and noticed he was a 2006 pilot. This got me down a little, figuring he knew all about ninjas and not to shoot at them. Moments after thinking this, he targeted me and launched a volley of missiles. I quickly warped to my Orca to grab my Hurricane and back again. Once back in the mission, I noticed he must have warped away and docked. While I was sitting there I had a few frigates aggro me, so I decided to kill them quick. I received a private chat invite shortly after. I accepted and decided to play dumb with anything he said.

Dohickey > hello
Junto Kast > hi, i’m not sure if you’re new or somebody’s alt
Dohickey > why?
Junto Kast > the reason i attacked you was because you were flagged
Junto Kast > if you want the loot from that mission you’re welcome to it
Dohickey > alright
Junto Kast > but don’t touch the cans
Dohickey > oh ok
Junto Kast > i can’t finish the mission without them
Dohickey > oh ok, sorry i didnt touch them
Junto Kast > np
Dohickey > i left cuz you shot me :S
Dohickey > i didnt want to lose my ship

Junto Kast > be careful with the spawns aswell
Junto Kast > BS’s and cruisers spawn there
Dohickey > ah, dang
Dohickey > i didn’t realize that
Junto Kast > i’m going back in a mo
Dohickey > ok, let me know when ur mission is done then, i’ll warp back and loot if u don’t mind :D
Junto Kast > you’re better off coming back now, if the ships spawn they should aggro me
Dohickey > oh ok
Junto Kast > + i need abandon the loot
Junto Kast > otherwise you’ll be prime target for anyone

Moments later, I see Junto come back in his shuttle. He completely ignored my Hurricane sitting less than five kilometers away from him and began to move towards the cargo container containing the damsel. I decided I might as well get something out of him, so I popped his shuttle.

Junto Kast > not cool
Dohickey > :D
Junto Kast > i came out there to abandon my wrecks

After I popped his shuttle, I decided all was lost with getting a shot at his CNR. This guy must realize that if he comes back I’ll be here in my Hurricane yet. So I started towards the cargo container to get the damsel and possibly a few million ISK out of selling her on contract to him. On my way to the container, I shot at a wreck to extend aggro just in case he decided to come back to get his mission item. About ten kilometers away from container, in warps Junto’s CNR all flashy red to me. Completely surprised, I targeted and pointed him before he could manage to escape.

Junto Kast > come on man let me go

I have to give Junto credit, his ship had a tough tank to break for my skills and fitting. Thankfully Placid was there in his Basilisk providing support or I would have had to bail. I would also like to thank Junto for logging off right at the point where I was about to give up hope on ever breaking his tank. As soon as he had logged off, all his modules shut off and pop went his CNR.

Raven Wreck

Thanks Junto for logging, I couldn't have done it without you!

I scooped the loot from the wreckage and decided I better not leave the damsel. Something might happen to her!

The Damsel

Hopefully someone gives her a home.

Flashback

Been awhile since I felt the need to post here. Not many things have been happening in EVE recently. A few days ago that did change, so let me do a little flashback to setup the post. Feel free to skip these few paragraphs to get to the main reason for posting if you wish.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Placid and I started our EVE careers pretty standard for a new player. We started doing missions and the usual carebear activities. I remember the first time I had more than a million ISK in my wallet and how excited I was about having that million. Time went by and about a month into our time playing EVE we discovered what a level 4 mission was. We were overjoyed at this new source of income, making several hundred million ISK. However, we also discovered this thing called a “ninja salvager”. Being the completely clueless new player we became angered at first. I remember Placid and I having conversations about figuring out a way to kill those nasty little destroyers and frigates that came into our missions.

Now further down the road, Placid and I began to try out this ninja salvaging thing. I started to try it out first, just with the intention of salvaging not ganking. We had no idea about actually trying to kill the mission runner yet. This is about the time when Placid met up with a pilot by the name of Bladewise. I still remember Placid telling me about his encounter with Bladewise. How he had saw Bladewise’s Heron in his mission and how he wanted to kill his Heron. He did actually manage to kill his Heron, but this is when Placid learned about the gankship. After the loss of Placid’s drake and finding out about being able to kill mission runners, we knew what we wanted to do in EVE. We just had to figure out how.

Being the college student I am, I decided to do a little research about EVE and the whole mechanics about how these players could even get into our missions. That’s when I discovered this: Kahega’s Ninja Salvaging Guide. I kept reading and it really kept my interest. I decided to do some more research and see if there were any videos about this new and exciting activity in EVE. I did a search for a scanning tutorial which brought up Paul Clavet’s Ninja Salvaging Scanning Demonstration.

“Paul Clavet? Who is he? I think I’ll check out his other uploads.” That’s what was running through my head when I checked his account. I clicked on some of his videos and saw the link to his blog. Wow, all the other links to other ninja blogs. It was an exciting night to say the least. Before I was exposed to the ninja blogs and the videos associated with these blogs, I was thinking of quitting EVE altogether as the carebear lifestyle was far too boring for me. So I’d just like to say thanks to Paul Clavet and all the ninja bloggers if any of you are reading this.

Now once Placid and I started this ninja career, we thought it would be a goal of ours to try to get into the TEARS alliance. We figured we probably wouldn’t have a chance being new to EVE, so we decided to try to devote our EVE time 100% to mission runner ganking. We tried to gain a lot of experience in a short amount of time.

This brings me to the reason for this post. Hei Gui Inc. is now an official member of TEARS. I feel it’s some sort of milestone for Placid and myself being so new to EVE. This also leads me to the next part of this post. I’m going to be trying out video capturing and editing. Personally I feel obligated in a way to make these videos to share one of the reasons why I’m still playing EVE.

Woot!

Hei Gui is in TEARS. Woot!

So here’s a video of an old Maelstrom kill made by Placid and the resulting killmail that I got to take part in.
